The Corridors Of Courage
When I began working in the arena of Post-Mastectomy Care in the Caribbean, it was as a trajectory within my journey to align the vision of making inclusive Breast Empowerment an imperative.
In the world of care, there are so many things that we humans can unintentionally take for granted.
In the world of caring for someone in need of hope and especially following a diagnosis of breast cancer, many involved usually find courage within the depths of our beings, way beyond our imaginings.
In caring and finding the courage - that's actually the intersection of finding ways and curating pathways. Many do it without even calling it by its name.
Now, after being a practitioner of Breast Empowerment and Mastectomy Care since 2002, it feels significant to understand why I make courage a big part of the picture.
Care isn't something anyone decides to do on a whim and fancy. It is a commitment for a long haul and it also takes multiple efforts from not only the practitioner but more so the patient - that person who is entrusted in the care of a professional.
And then, before it is even recognised, this is indeed a partnership, one that's enshrined in the unique needs, yet the different strengths, struggles and significant milestones in healing of each person who is diagnosed and their entire support system.
To walk the corridors of courage, is to see every person, every family, every practitioner who embraces collective care, playing a responsible role to ensure breast cancer recovery is the essence within the complexity of the course of courage.
We then truly become United By Unique!
