Story

I am working as a consultant Clinical and Radiation Oncologist in the city of Peshawar since 2018. After completing my training from Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK and working as a consultant for around 2 years, I decided to move back to Pakistan in order to provide my services to a cancer hospital in my own city. I can proudly say that I have been able to provide the services here based on similar high clinical standards as practiced in some of the best cancer centres in the UK.

Since the inauguration of the radiation department in March of 2019, we have expanded our clinical services to cater to patients with a large spectrum of cancers. We provide radiotherapy to patients with the intention of either curing their disease or to control their symptoms and improve quality of life if the cancer can’t be cured.

Over the past few years, we have treated several patients successfully and have helped them through this very difficult journey of anti-cancer treatment. One particular patient that I can remember was a young lady with relapsed breast cancer. She had a young family to look after and was highly anxious when first seen in the clinic. She had also recently lost her young son and was going through a period of grief. After thorough assessment, she was started on anti-cancer treatment and over the course of the next few months, her cancer went into remission. She remains on my follow up and is working as a full-time teacher at a local school. Her story is one of many who seek treatment at Shaukat Khanum's second hospital in Pakistan and are able to beat cancer with the help of a highly experienced and motivated team working at this institution.
