This world cancer day, we took an initiative of spreading lung cancer awareness on National Television in India. We tried to touch all important pointers related toer, lung cancer diagnosis, treatment and financial toxicity through various stakeholders in lung cancer. In this interview, Mr Sanjeev Sharma (Director, LCIF) and Ms Vandana Mahajan (Senior Counsellor, LCIF) is giving some insightful details from their work exprience. The interview was featured in the Breakfast show from 8:30- 9:00 am IST on NDTV 24x7 which is a leading news channel in India.

The keypoints from this conversation-

Vandana Mahajan emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about lung cancer, as many people do not think about it in the context of common cancers in India. The number of lung cancer cases is increasing rapidly, and a large portion of them are diagnosed at advanced stages, reducing the chances of successful treatment.

The foundation works towards spreading awareness and supporting lung cancer patients. It also advocates for early detection, which can significantly improve survival rates.

Sanjeev Sharma focuses on research and clinical trials so that medicines can be made in India and the cost of treatment can be affordable.

The foundation has been instrumental in supporting patients through monthly support group meetings and reaching out to over 55,000 patients and caregivers via their digital platform. They also helped ensure continuity of care during the COVID-19 lockdown by collaborating with oncologists and using the Indian Postal Service to deliver necessary medications to patients in remote areas.

The foundation also provides palliative care for terminally ill patients, offering emotional and practical support to those nearing the end of their lives.

It’s a powerful discussion on how awareness, early detection, and support for both patients and caregivers can make a big difference in the fight against cancer.
