On 22 February 2026, a powerful step toward strengthening cancer prevention at the grassroots level was taken through a Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programme dedicated to empowering municipal  Cooperation nurses in cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection.

The initiative brought together committed healthcare leaders and educators who share a common vision  reducing the cancer burden through knowledge driven nursing leadership.

Dr. Prasant Jawade, Medical Officer of Health MOH NMMC from Navi  Mumbai, delivered an inspiring and knowledge rich address. He emphasized the critical role nurses play in community level cancer prevention and highlighted the importance of staying updated with evolving screening guidelines, early detection protocols, and patient counselling strategies. His message was clear: empowered nurses are the backbone of effective cancer control programs.

The programme was further strengthened by the passionate involvement of Dr. Shradha, Jawanjal associated with the “Pink Revolution” initiative, who reinforced the importance of breast cancer awareness and community screening outreach. Her commitment to women’s health advocacy added strong momentum to the session’s objectives.

Nursing Superintendent Rachel Patnigere played a vital leadership role in mobilizing participation and encouraging professional excellence among nursing staff. Her continuous support reflects the administrative commitment required to translate awareness into action.

Academic collaboration was represented by Madam Vaishali Santosh Jadhav from Bharati Vidyapeeth, whose contribution ensured that the session maintained strong educational depth and evidence-based perspectives.

The CNE featured excellent speakers were Jyoti Patel From Tata memorial,Ms Arnima ,Dr Menon,Dr Gargee Karadkar who were thoughtfully selected to address practical aspects of cancer awareness, prevention strategies, and early detection methods, particularly for breast, cervical, and oral cancers. The session focused not only on theoretical updates but also on practical empowerment  enabling nurses to confidently educate patients, conduct screenings, and act as community change agents.

This initiative stands as an example of collaborative leadership between municipal health authorities and academic institutions. By strengthening the knowledge and confidence of frontline nurses, the programme contributes significantly toward early diagnosis, timely referral, and ultimately improved cancer outcomes.

Empowering nurses is not just an educational effort  it is a strategic movement toward a cancer-aware society.
