Oncoguia Public Act on World Cancer Day
The Oncoguia Institute, a nonprofit organization advocating for cancer patients' rights, is holding a public act on World Cancer Day to raise awareness and demand effective public policies to combat the rising cancer mortality rate.
📅 When: February 4, World Cancer Day
📍 Where: FIESP sidewalk, Avenida Paulista, 1313, São Paulo
🕘 Schedule:
Community mobilization: 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Public act & whistle protest: 12:30 PM
During the event, cancer patients, families, healthcare professionals, and advocates will participate in a two-minute whistle protest to highlight the alarming number of cancer-related deaths. In Brazil, one person dies from cancer every two minutes, with 240,000 deaths recorded in 2022 and an estimated 705,000 new cases per year (INCA data).
Oncoguia urges the government to prioritize cancer care and implement overdue policies, including:
Regulation of the National Cancer Prevention and Control Policy (delayed for 8 months).
Ensuring early and efficient diagnosis through screening programs and the "More Access to Specialists Program (PMAE)."
Equal access to new treatments with mandatory Care Protocols (PCDTs) in the public health system (SUS).
Comprehensive and palliative care with access to multidisciplinary teams and supportive therapies.
"This scenario must change! Cancer needs to be a priority for our leaders. No more inequalities, no more lives lost due to inaction," emphasizes Luciana Holtz, Oncoguia’s founder and president.
Throughout the morning, Oncoguia staff and volunteers will be available to inform and support the public on cancer-related issues.
