This year, in response to UICC’s World Cancer Day, HOPE FOUNDATION for CANCER CARE has launched the initiative “Healthy Taiwan, You and Me Together”, aligning with President Lai Ching-te’s “Healthy Taiwan” policy vision and UICC’s three-year World Cancer Day theme- “United by Unique”.

To highlight the uniqueness of every cancer patient and rally nationwide support for a more empathetic future, HOPE has organized the “Ribbons of HOPE Flash Exhibition at Huashan” and the “UPSIDEDOWN CHALLENGE” social media campaign. These initiatives also serve to demonstrate Taiwan’s strong commitment to the fight against cancer on a global stage.

HOPE’s World Cancer Day 2025 Plan Features Three Key Initiatives:

1. Ribbons of HOPE Flash Exhibition – We collaborated with artists to create 42 figurines representing 20 common types of cancer in Taiwan. These art pieces are currently displayed at popular locations in Taipei to raise public awareness about cancer prevention and control.

2.UPSIDE-DOWN CHALLENGE Campaign – In support of UICC’s initiative, we launched a dedicated website encouraging people across Taiwan to upload upside-down photos to social media. Through this collective effort, we aim to light up every corner of Taiwan on the map and make our voices heard for World Cancer Day.

3.2025 World Cancer Day Press Conference – We successfully held our press conference today, with Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te (Taiwan’s first physician president) attending in person to deliver a speech. He reaffirmed his commitment to reducing cancer mortality by one-third by 2030, a goal he set upon taking office. Other distinguished guests included former Vice President Chen Chien-jen (himself a lung cancer survivor), the Minister of Health and Welfare, the Director-General of the Health Promotion Administration, and several legislators, all demonstrating strong support for cancer prevention and patient care. This marks the highest-level government attendance in the history of our World Cancer Day press conferences, and we are delighted to see this growing commitment to deepening and strengthening Taiwan’s cancer prevention efforts.

Each year, our World Cancer Day initiatives serve as a powerful reminder to society about the importance of cancer prevention. We are also witnessing increasing participation from hospitals, organizations, and businesses across Taiwan, making World Cancer Day more widely known, recognized and supported. We hope this exciting update inspires all of you—every effort we make together truly matters!

A special thanks to our public welfare partners, Takeda and Roche, for their generous support in making this World Cancer Day event possible!

Additionally, on the afternoon of World Cancer Day, we joined our public welfare partner Takeda in the "Exercise Against Cancer" event to support World Cancer Day and align with the "Exercise is Medicine" (EIM) initiative launched by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). This initiative aims to develop exercise prescriptions for diverse patient populations to prevent and treat chronic diseases.

Through five key exercise prescriptions—muscle strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular fitness, balance, and agility, we designed interactive challenges that integrate exercise into daily life, making physical activity the strongest shield against cancer!
