United by Unique: Cancer Heros Among Our Society

The Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI) hosted a remarkable event in honor of World Cancer Day 2025, celebrating the resilience and triumph of cancer survivors. This year’s theme, "United by Unique: Celebrating Cancer Heroes in Our Society," brought together survivors, healthcare professionals, and dignitaries to spread awareness, hope, and strength.

A truly inspiring moment was the participation of 450 cancer survivors, many of whom have bravely fought the disease for over a decade. 15 survivors shared their personal journeys, highlighting the emotional, social, and financial challenges they faced and how they overcame them with courage, medical advancements, and unwavering support. Their stories served as a beacon of hope for those currently battling cancer.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of:
Srimati Darshanaben Vaghela (MLA, Asarwa Vidhansabha, Gujarat)
Shri Harshadkumar Patel, IAS (Commissioner of Health, Medical Services & Medical Education, Health and Family Welfare Department, Gujarat)

Their encouragement and recognition of survivors’ strength emphasized the importance of community support in the fight against cancer.

Survivors representing various types of cancer, including breast, cervical, oral, esophageal, lung, leukemia, lymphoma, rectal, brain, bone cancers, and those who have undergone bone marrow transplants, were honored with mementos as a tribute to their courage and resilience.

The event concluded with a symbolic balloon release, representing hope, unity, and the
collective fight against cancer.
