United by Unique – Reshaping Cancer Care in Macedonia

The World Cancer Day event in Macedonia, themed United by Unique – Reshaping Cancer Care in Macedonia, will take place on 4 February 2025 in Skopje. This event will centre around an engaging panel discussion aimed at addressing the key challenges facing cancer care in the country. Expert panellists, including oncologists, haematologists, pathologists, radiologists, and representatives from the Fund for Health Insurance, will explore topics such as diagnostic delays, treatment shortages, and the need for more effective multidisciplinary collaboration. They will examine the systemic barriers to timely diagnosis and treatment access, including challenges within the tender process for medications and the integration of essential cancer drugs into the reimbursement list. The panel will also highlight the critical role of patient organisations, such as HEMA-ONKO and NAPO, in reshaping cancer care and advocating for reform. Through this open discussion, the event will call for actionable solutions to improve cancer care in Macedonia, fostering a more collaborative and patient-centred healthcare system.
