Ahmed Eagan, Maldives

When my wife was diagnosed with cancer, I had no real understanding of the battle she would face. I had only seen the word “cancer” from a distance, never knowing the pain it would bring, not just to her, but to both of us. At first, I believed the treatments would fix everything. But I soon saw how brutal cancer could be, even as she fought with an incredible strength. Her joy, resilience, and relentless positivity became a source of strength for me that I needed.

As her caregiver, I struggled with the weight of my role. But my wife’s constant optimism gave me strength. Even in the darkest moments, she would smile and remind me that everything will be alright. Through her, I learned what true courage was, though I could never fully grasp the depth of the pain she went through.

After four years, the treatments stopped working, and the cancer took over. Cancer turned my world upside down. Yet even in her final moments, I could feel the love between us, stronger than ever. Her suffering still haunts me, but I also hold onto the laughter, the shared memories, and the undeniable strength she left behind.

In the aftermath, I found support through my family, her friends, now my friends, and the Cancer Support Group by CSM became my new family. They showed me that, even after loss, there’s strength in connection. With them, I’ve found a renewed sense of purpose in raising awareness and supporting those affected by cancer.

Though I still grieve, I look forward to the future. My wife’s legacy lives on in me, in the way I am trying to help others, and in the hope I carry.
