Asma, Egypt
The first sign of trouble was the discovery of a lump in my breast, marking the beginning of my cancer journey. Initial mammogram results were negative; however, the lump continued to grow and became visibly apparent. I decided to seek medical attention at Baheya Hospitals and Centers, having heard about its reputation and knowing that treatment was available there free of charge. Given my difficult financial circumstances after immigrating to Egypt from Syria in 2011, this was invaluable to me.
Upon arrival there, I underwent a thorough medical examination, which unfortunately revealed a malignant tumor. Despite the devastating news, I accepted my diagnosis with a positive attitude and was grateful for the availability of such a facility. I remained optimistic and confident in God's healing powers.
I immediately began chemo treatment. As my daughters lived far away, one in Germany and the other in a remote part of Egypt, I underwent treatments alone. My husband, who suffers from various health issues, including severe vision problems, was unable to accompany me, and despite my own illness, I continued to care for him.
The side effects of chemotherapy, such as anxiety, weakness, and depression, were particularly challenging. Despite my occasional frustration with my husband due to my illness, he remained consistently understanding and supportive.
Throughout this ordeal, I maintained a positive outlook and did not let my illness define me. The medical staff at Baheya provided exceptional care and support, which helped me cope with the absence of my family and friends.
I urge all women to undergo regular check-ups and early detection screenings to increase their chances of a successful outcome.
