Started very simply and innocently. Discovered a small lump whilst bathing. I just instantly knew it was something that needed to be checked…how I don’t know? I was keen to be checked quickly as I have my boys and my husband who I have a responsibility to and therefore I must take care of myself. I was referred on a two week pathway at the end of April 2025, then diagnosis May 28th followed by my chemotherapy starting on 20th June 2025. Good and empathetic care throughout
My biggest challenge was the physical toll it took on me that meant I was unable to mother in my usual way. I knew that my mental abilities could reassure, care for and encourage my family but physically I was so changed and this was what brought the anxiety to my children.
My family and friends. My children are amazing. My mindset and the constant repetition from healthcare professionals regarding my situation being positive and outcomes were strong.
It’s been excellent. I do however wish that wider care is more included in the whole process as physical decline is hard to manage and things such as physios and dieticians could really support recovery.
Be present in the moment and work through each day individually. Each day brings new hope and possibly new challenge but know that you are strong even on those days you will inevitably feel physically weak. Light will come in glimmers and you can do it.
