Yee Man, Hong Kong SAR China shared by Elkie
This is a story of Yee man. Her mother was resident of Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society Jockey Club Cancer Rehabilitation Centre.
Yee Man initially struggled with the physical and emotional burden of caring for her mother, who suffered from both cancer and cognitive impairments. The daily care, particularly bathing, became a "battle," eventually forcing Yee Man to quit her job. Realizing she wanted to cherish her remaining time with her mother rather than be consumed by caregiving duties, she enrolled her mother in the HKACS "Charity Bed Programme."
During the mother's two-week stay at the JCCRC, the relationship shifted from stressful to carefree. Yee Man was deeply moved by the nursing team's emphasis on the "human touch", specifically their insistence on bathing her mother with patience and encouragement. This act restored her mother's dignity and vibrant spirit. Ultimately, her mother passed away peacefully, achieving the Centre’s goal of allowing patients and families to bid farewell without regrets.
