Person with a lived experience of cancer

Jennifer, United Kingdom

I was diagnosed in 2018, I was getting alot of back pain and went to the GP who referred me to the hospital. I couldn't believe it when they told me I had cancer, but I chose to get on with with life.

I had my surgery quickly after diagnosis- having my family around me was helpful. My daughter came each day she used to say how amazing I was even though I didnt feel it, it was still helpful to hear.

I have blood cancer which means I have low platelets so I am at risk of infection but I don't let it stop me I try not to think about it, this helps me. I chat with my daughter that helps and try to get on with it. I think going to community groups help me I go to knit and knatter, chit and chatter and I come out in a better frame of mind.
