Person with a lived experience of cancer

Mary, United States

A cancer diagnosis can be both terrifying and overwhelming, especially with how quickly everything can move—at least in my experience. When I was diagnosed, everything happened fast: I had an oncology appointment within two days, with surgery being discussed for the following week. There was little time to ground myself, process what was happening, or even do research. Being diagnosed at 40 made me feel incredibly alone at first.

Thankfully, I soon found a community of survivors/warriors for my specific cancer via Instagram who became an incredible source of support. They offered listening ears, guidance, and encouragement, empowering me to share my story publicly. Since then, I've been able to help others facing their own diagnoses, and that has been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey.
