Person with a lived experience, Zimbabwe
Well cancer a deadly disease, it almost destroyed everything in my life. All my dreams were shuttered down, no hope or visions because of this disease. The day I went for Breast cancer screening was my worst day. Well, I didn't show it to my daughter who had accompanied me but deep down in my heart I was broken & hurt. I was very active in church doing projects and I love serving in the house of the Lord but because of the wound on my Breast, I stopped going to church and even family gatherings, I was always indoors.
Business wise I went down, am into Catering & Deco, I couldn't do it because of the big wound on my breast. Sometimes I would send my girls to do it or pass the job to someone. I sold decor equipment in order to have money for treatment.
Am also into horticulture. I have a farm in Mazowe Consession area, had drilled a borehole for the project but well, it went down because I was down. I couldn't do anything, even my husband who was retrenched couldn't leave me alone because he had to take care of me. My husband has a lorry which he hired out in order to have money for my medication, but it broke down & needed 600usd for repairs. I also needed the same amount for treatment, CT scans, Cancer markers and chemotherapy. So my husband said it was better to use the money for treatment because life is precious. So because of cancer all things went down. Even the house we are building isn't finished again cancer treatment costs. Now we are selling our truck Toyota 1.5 which used to help us for hirings & transporting cabbages, butternuts, green beans........for sell. Sure everything changed Upside Down, Cancer is a destroyer but I thank God because I am a fighter.
