Prem Chand, India
Hello, I am Prem Chand Gupta from Agra, India, and I have been living with lung cancer for the past seven years. My journey has had its ups and downs, but over time, I’ve learned valuable lessons from this experience. One of the first things I realized was that despite never having smoked and leading an active lifestyle, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. It was difficult to accept initially, but I soon understood that denial wouldn’t help. Acceptance was key. Accepting my situation gave me the strength to move forward and live my life as best as I could.
Cancer has taught me that, although my time may be limited, I can still live fully within my "new normal." I maintain discipline by taking my medicines and eating on time, and I continue with my activities as much as possible. I am on targeted therapy, which is a lifeline for me, and I make sure to never miss a dose.
I’ve also experienced common side effects, such as a loss of appetite, but I try to eat regularly, understanding that nourishment is important for my strength. The cancer has spread to my brain, which sometimes causes memory loss, but my family, especially my son, has been incredibly supportive, helping me cope.
One of the greatest blessings in my life has been the Lung Connect India Foundation, which supports me even in the smallest ways. I believe that instead of complaining, we should focus on the efforts of our loved ones and appreciate their support. Cancer is a challenging journey, and though it’s not our fault, practicing gratitude and acceptance can help us live our limited lives to the fullest.
