Person with a lived experience of cancer

Rania, Egypt

My name is Rania, I am in my 40s and working as a laboratory specialist. In 2018, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I accompanied her throughout her journey. After her illness, she urged me and our other sisters to undergo regular check-ups at Baheya Hospitals and Centers, given its reputation for medical expertise.

At the beginning of 2024, doctors at Baheya discovered a small lump in my left breast, marking the start of my own journey with them. After undergoing necessary tests, a malignant tumor was confirmed in its early stages, necessitating surgery. However, the doctors took every precaution to ensure a successful surgery without compromising my appearance.

There, I met an elderly woman undergoing treatment who was sitting next to me. With her comforting words, she reassured me and shared her own similar experience, explaining how she had overcome it thanks to the hospital's support. She said, "Don't worry, you're in a safe place."

I am grateful to have successfully completed all stages of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and I am currently undergoing hormonal treatment. My active participation in the psychological support activities, including trips and support sessions, has significantly contributed to my emotional well-being. Within this supportive community, I have found a second home, where I have consistently received the love and encouragement I needed.

Today, having fully recovered, my message to every woman facing a similar experience is to never lose hope. Seek support from your loved ones and remember that you are not alone in this journey.

Early detection of breast cancer is critical to successful treatment outcomes. Therefore, all women are strongly recommended to prioritize regular check-ups.
