🌿 A Little Story from My Family – Shared on Cancer Day
In 2009, I faced one of the biggest turning points of my life: I had to undergo a hysterectomy due to a molar pregnancy and a pre‑cancerous condition. After multiple rounds of chemotherapy and relapses, I was forced to make an incredibly difficult decision…
But thanks to that choice, I am still here today — healthy, working, taking care of my husband, and raising my two children into adulthood.
In 2020, my eldest sister was diagnosed with lung cancer. She fought with incredible courage, and thanks to advancements in medicine, she was gifted more than five precious years to be with her family and watch her grandchildren grow.
And just recently, my fifth brother — after ten peaceful years since his first treatment for bladder cancer — experienced a recurrence. This time, he had to undergo a complete removal of his bladder and now continues with chemotherapy to prevent metastasis. My family knows he will need all the strength and courage… just like my sister once did.
🌸 Through all these challenges, there is one thing my family holds deeply in our hearts: gratitude.
Gratitude for the doctors, physicians.
Gratitude for modern medicine.
Gratitude for the breakthroughs in science and the pharmaceutical industry — that have given patients like my family members more time:
time to live,
time to love,
and time to continue writing the stories of their lives.
As a Pfizer colleague, I am especially proud of our purpose —
“Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives.”
And I’ve seen with my own eyes what this truly means.
Thanks to medical innovations, I remained healthy enough to be the mother and wife I dreamed of being.
Thanks to these breakthroughs, my sister had extra years filled with joy.
Thanks to science, my brother — diagnosed at just 58 — has been given ten meaningful years and is still fighting with hope today.
❤️ Cancer is terrifying.
But hope, love, and the power of scientific breakthroughs are always stronger.
On Cancer Day, I share this little story from my family to express gratitude — and to remind us all that every day we are alive is a priceless gift.
Thank you, life, for allowing us to still be here — to love, to cherish moments, and to continue contributing to this world. 💛
