You are not alone
Person with a lived experience of cancer

Vikki, Trinidad & Tobago

How did it start?

I first felt a small lump on my right breast but I paid no attention to it. My friend convinced me to get it checked out and I did. To my surprise, after an ultrasound plus a mammogram, I was diagnosed with Stage 1, Triple Negative, Breast Cancer.

What was the biggest challenge(s) in your experience with cancer?

My biggest challenge was cost. I couldn't afford the treatment plan suggested to you. I prayed really hard and I got through. I was scared at first but somehow I managed.

What helped you most?

My Dad was and still is my biggest supporter. I can't imagine getting through this without him. Thanks Dad and Lil bro!

What was your experience of the healthcare system?

The public Healthcare system was a rough one for me but I couldn't afford the private treatment.

What is your message of hope or words of advice?

I would tell everyone to please get tested or checked out as early as possible. Early detection do save lives. To my cancer warriors, please don't give up. I have faith in you all. To the caretakers, we need you. Please continue to exercise patience and support, it is not an easy journey. To my friends, family and supporters, I Love You all!!!
