My Journey: Rising Above Cancer
In November 2022, my world turned upside down when I was diagnosed with advanced-stage esophageal cancer—CT⁴N². The tumor was massive, measuring 9 cm x 3 cm, and it had already spread to my lymph nodes. Hearing those words from the doctors felt like the ground beneath me had crumbled. But even in that moment, I knew I wasn’t going to give up.
I began my treatment at NCI Nagpur with a grueling regimen of 14 chemotherapy cycles and 33 radiation sessions. Each day brought challenges, both physical and emotional. There were times when the side effects drained me completely, but I held on to hope, to life, and to the love and support of those around me. By the end of the treatment, the cancer was declared cured. It was a moment of triumph, a glimmer of light after months of darkness.
But cancer is a relentless adversary. During my follow-up, the unthinkable happened—it came back. This time, it had spread to my lungs along with the esophagus. I could have broken down, but I didn’t. Instead, I sought treatment at TMC, where I was put on a new regimen of immunotherapy with Nivolumab and chemotherapy.
What kept me going through all of this was my family and friends. They were my pillars of strength when I felt weak, my source of courage when doubt crept in. From accompanying me to every hospital visit to sitting by my side during endless hours of treatment, their presence reminded me I wasn’t fighting alone. Their unwavering belief in my ability to overcome this gave me hope, and their love became my greatest medicine. It was in their smiles, their words of encouragement, and even their silent prayers that I found the energy to keep moving forward.
Month by month, I saw progress. The disease came under control and, for the last seven months, it has remained stable. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I’ve learned to adapt and fight. I started walking every morning, doing regular exercises, and eating a healthy, nutritious diet. Slowly, my body regained its strength, and so did my spirit.
Now, I don’t feel like I’m ill. I’ve let go of the fear that once gripped me. Cancer doesn’t define me—it never did. I’ve learned to live life fully, appreciating every sunrise, every step, and every moment I have.
This journey has taught me the true meaning of resilience. I’ve faced some of the darkest days, but I’ve also discovered a strength within me that I never knew existed. If there’s one thing I want to share with anyone reading this, it’s this: Don’t give up. No matter how hard the fight may seem, there’s always hope.
I also acknowledge the work that Lung Connect India Foundation is doing to help more people like us.
I’m living proof that with determination, support, and a positive mindset, it’s possible to rise above even the toughest battles. Cancer tried to shake me, but I chose to stand tall. And today, I am stronger, more alive, and more grateful than ever before.
