In September 1992, I just fell down. I was conscious but had no energy feeling so weak, it happened twice, and it didn't make sense. The second time it happened I was sent to the local hospital in Blantyre, Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia; I was 8 years old. Malawi then had no chemotherapy available, so my best chance was to be referred to another country. I was referred to South Africa, to Johannesburg general hospital where I received chemotherapy for 3 years with a few months of radiotherapy. The chemo journey was painful and being young I could understand that death was knocking on my door, but my family was there especially my late mum and dad. There were always there for me, lifting me up when I was down. September 1995 I was declared cancer free, but my cancer journey didn't end there, during the treatment and after the treatment I spent some time talking to other patients young and old motivating them through their cancer fight. In 2011 I established a nonprofit organisation that supports cancer patients and spreads awareness about cancer. As cancer Survivors we fought cancer and won, now we fight for others.
