Détails
A community awareness program on cancer will be organized on the occasion of World Cancer Day at the Rural Health and Training Centre (RHTC), Mallunangal, attached to the Department of Community Medicine, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. The event will be organized under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Harjot Singh and Dr. Paramjot Bindra, with the aim of improving community awareness regarding cancer prevention, early detection, and timely access to care, particularly in rural settings.
The program will feature interactive health education sessions addressing common cancers prevalent in the region, their risk factors, early warning signs, and available screening methods. Special emphasis will be placed on lifestyle modification, tobacco and alcohol cessation, healthy dietary habits, and the importance of early diagnosis in reducing cancer-related morbidity and mortality. Information regarding locally available healthcare services and referral mechanisms will also be shared with the participants.
Community members participated actively in the discussions, and their concerns and misconceptions about cancer will be addressed in a culturally appropriate and easily understandable manner. Educational aids will be used to reinforce key messages and encourage engagement. The event contributes to increased awareness, reduced stigma associated with cancer, and strengthened the role of community-based preventive strategies in cancer control.
