World Cancer Day 2026
Detalles
On the occasion of World Cancer Day (4 February), the Mediterranean Task Force for Cancer Control (MTCC), carries out an awareness and advocacy activity focusing on the intersection of diabetes and cancer.
This activity aims to raise awareness about the increased risk of cancer and poorer clinical outcomes among people living with diabetes. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of optimal glycemic control during cancer treatment to improve therapeutic response and minimize treatment-related toxicities.
The initiative also highlights the need to integrate cancer screening into routine diabetes care using age- and sex-appropriate protocols, and to actively monitor and manage newly diagnosed diabetes and hyperglycemia during oncology treatment.
Furthermore, the activity advocates for personalized cancer management strategies discussed within multidisciplinary tumor boards, ensuring coordinated care to reduce avoidable toxicities and improve treatment effectiveness.
This World Cancer Day activity reinforces the key message that proper diabetes management is a critical component of comprehensive and effective cancer control.
